An Open Letter from Johnny Mouradian, Team Canada Lacrosse 2010 General
Manager,
Dear National Team Alumni:
Lacrosse was introduced in England in 1967 and spread to Scotland, Wales, Ireland,
Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. It was an Olympic sport in 1904 at St.
Louis and in 1908 at London. Only three countries, Canada, England, and the United
States, were represented and Canada won both gold medals. Gold medals again in 1978
and 2006!
It was a demonstration sport at the Olympics in 1928, 1932, and 1948, and an exhibition
tournament was held at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1980. The world championships
were reintroduced in 1967 however the 1974 world games at Melbourne set the stage
for the current four year format. Currently there are 24 (FIL) Federation of International
Lacrosse countries and nine associate countries. And you helped it grow!
Team Canada will be defending the Gold Medal at that World Field Lacrosse Championships
at Manchester, England July 10-24, 2010. In preparation, our National Team tryout
camp is Oct 9-12 at St. Mikes College in Toronto. As part of the camp, we travel
by bus to Orchard Park, New York on Sunday Oct 11th for two scrimmages against Notre
Dame University.
Time to connect! Please join us for the bus trip on Sunday, bring your family and
friends. Load up your cooler, well tailgate, lets enjoy the day together and connect
to Team Canada players and their parents, coaches, staff and management. On Sunday,
the bus will be leaving the Harbor Castle Hotel in Toronto at 7am and have a stop
or two for picks up along the way (locations TBD) the bus trip cost is absorbed
by Team Canada, however a donation would be appreciated.
Please respond either way by Tues Oct 6th, obviously from a geographic perspective
this limits the number of you. However, this is the first step to connecting National
Team Alumni to all future National Teams. Please forward to every Canadian National
Team player, coach, manager, equipment manager and have then respond so we can build
the data base.
Also want to introduce Dean French the Executive Director for the National Team
and Stu Brown our Assistant General Manager and let everyone know that Mike French
